Me.About

This website came to life in early 1998 primarily because I (Dev Ashish) got tired (sort of anyways) of typing in or copy/pasting the same "canned" responses to the questions being posted in the various Microsoft Access newsgroups on the Usenet.  (Actually, the text file was getting kind of large. :-) ) Of course there were already a lot of such websites on the net, but nothing beats the luxury of having some content on the local hard drive and knowing whether a topic has been covered or not.

Over time, I have been lucky enough to receive the contributions from  many folks from all corners of the world. Some people went above and beyond in helping me understand specific topics or working with me to come up with interesting utilities and other code samples. You all know who you are, and I sincerely thank you. Without your personal support and encouragement, I would not know most of what I do know today, and this website could never have been as extensive as it is today.  I would additionally like to specifically express my gratitude to the following people (in no particular order):

  • Michel (Vanderghast) Walsh, Access MVP, for translating the entire website in French, a truly non-trivial task.
  • Felix Kasza, Win32 SDK MVP, for providing the space on his server for this content.
  • Terry Kreft, Access MVP, for having enough patience to answer my questions, and for piquing my interest in the Win32 API.
  • Ken Getz, renowned author and Access MVP, for possessing a writing style that makes many a tough problems seem easy.
  • And lest I forget; all those who've flamed me for various reasons, or told me that something is undoable.  Proving your assertions wrong was, and continues to be, one of the biggest reasons behind many an interesting projects. :-)

A personal thanks to Arvin Meyer, who, since mid-2002, has been helping me, as the co-author of the site.

I've received a lot of emails over the years from folks wondering why I haven't provided any kind of personal information on this website.  Well, I truly never felt that such information would be of any value or have any relevance on a technical website such as this.  All the visitors come here for a specific reason; and finding information about me isn't one of them.  On the other hand, if you see me at some conference or somewhere else, then please do stop by for a chat. No amount of email usage can take the charm away from face-to-face communication. :-)
